Kentfield has some of the largest homes and lots in Marin, and painting them is a bigger, slower job than most. Many houses here were built in the early and middle 1900s, with brown shingles, wide porches, deep eaves and a lot of trim. Up in Kent Woodlands, homes sit on steep, wooded hillsides under oaks and redwoods, where shade and leaf litter keep the walls damp. Lower down, by the creek and around College of Marin, the flat lots take more sun but deal with winter moisture on the creek side. On a property this size, there's often a lot more than the house to think about: garden walls, fences, gates, pool houses and long runs of decking.

We take on full exterior repainting for Kentfield homes, from shingle staining to detailed trim, and handle the decks, fences and gates around them. A walkthrough comes first, and you get a written price that covers every part of the property. Call us or fill out the form to book one.

Large Older Homes and Shingle Exteriors

On a large older home, the scope of a paint job is easy to underestimate. There's more trim, more windows, more height and usually more layers of old paint to deal with. Shingle sections need a decision: some were stained originally and should stay stained, while others have been painted for decades and need to stay painted, since stripping paint off shingles is rarely worth it. We sort that out at the walkthrough. Tall walls and second stories often call for scaffolding, which is safer than long ladders on sloped ground and lets the crew work more carefully on upper trim. We also plan the order of work so the most weather-exposed sides get done in the driest stretch. Similar older homes run along the valley toward San Anselmo, and we bring the same approach there.

Wooded Lots, Creekside Damp and Tall Interiors

Kent Woodlands lots get a lot of shade, and the uphill sides of homes there can stay wet for days. We treat mildew, let the siding dry out fully and use mildew-resistant paint where the sun rarely reaches. Near the creek, the issue is moisture working up from below, so we look closely at the lowest siding boards and the bottoms of doors and trim, where water damage usually starts. Leaves and pollen from big trees are part of life here, so we cover landscaping carefully and pick dry, calm days for the final coats. Inside, larger homes often have high ceilings, stairwells and detailed millwork, and painting tall rooms and stairwells takes the right ladders, planks and patience to get clean lines up high. Wood-paneled dens and libraries, common in older Kentfield homes, can be cleaned and refinished or painted, depending on the look you want.
